Col. Theodore Roosevelt, former governor-general of the Philippines, who recently returned from a trip abroad during which he visited Germany, is “unalterably opposed” to the Nazi anti-Jewish program, he declared in a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
“In company with all liberal-minded men and women who believe in democracy and the hard-fought fight that man has waged for freedom of thought and liberty, I am unalterably opposed to the policy Germany has adopted against the Jews,” he declared.
“It offends the basic concepts on which our government is founded. It controverts the first principle of the Declaration of Independence.”
