Col. Yefim Davidovich, the Soviet Jewish activist and Red Army hero who died Saturday in Minsk, was hailed Tuesday as “a hero of his country and his people,” during a memorial service opposite the Soviet Embassy sponsored by the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington and the Washington Committee for Soviet Jewry. Rabbi Tzvi H. Porath. Soviet Jewry chairman of the Washington Board of Kabbis, said: “We will remember Col. Davidovich’s martyrdom as a call to all persons of conscience to never cease supporting the right of every person to be free from the yoke of tyranny.”
