The grant of £10,000 made by the Palestine government to the Haifa Technical College, as part of its general contribution of £60,000 towards technical education in Palestine, is to be invested in improvements to the curriculum which will greatly extend the scope of this useful institution, which has trained numerous young Jews to become skilled artisans and craftsmen.
It is likely that the workshops in applied mechanics and electricity, as well as extension of research facilities, will benefit. New class-rooms and workshops will also be built.
Many new teachers from Germany have been engaged, including Dr. Henry Markus, who headed the Technological Institute at Breslau and is a prominent ferroconcrete material research expert, to be lecturer in iron and concrete construction. Other German teachers are J. Haber-Shaim, F. Naftali, Dr. Max Kurdein, and Dr. Edwin Shabrin.
The college has started a course in supervision and use of agricultural machinery in the settlements.
There are also technical classes for German-Jewish immigrants, of whom there were 66 day students.
