The Association of American Colleges voted overwhelmingly yesterday to oppose legislation designed to end discrimination in educational institutions and, instead, to sponsor a program designed to end minority quotas and other discriminatory practices by education and voluntary action.
The annual meeting of the Association voted to establish a commission which will report annually on the problem of discrimination in colleges and universities. Some of the educators objected that the commission would be ineffective and urged that the Association call for state laws to bar tax exemption to institutions that discriminate. The convention did approve a resolution calling for the repeal of state legislation barring universities and professional schools to persons on the basis of race, creed or color.
