While the Hebrew paper “Ha’Aretz” reports that the British Colonial Office is disposed to recommend that all death sentences arising from the recent riots be commuted to 15 years the Courts continued to sentence Arabs for a number of other offenses. Naif Ghaneim, one of two brothers sentenced to death for the murder of Mamaan, of Safed, who had appealed that he was under 18, was found to be over 18 by a medical examiner. As a result of this the Court of Appeal confirmed the sentence.
Five Arabs guilty of stealing grain in Mishmar Ha’Emek, have been sentenced to nine months each in prison and three have been acquitted, while the Court of Appeal has acquitted seven other Arabs for burning the Bethalpha threshing floor.
