The memory of the late Baron Edmond de Rothschild, “famous philanthropist” and “nestor of the Jewish colonization movement in Palestine” will be perpetuated by a colonization project to be named “Edmond,” the Keren Hayesod (Jewish National Fund) announced today.
The entire proceeds of the Keren Hayesod campaign in Palestine during the current Jewish year, 5695, will be devoted to the project, which is to be the Yishuv’s own lasting tribute to Baron de Rothschild, who founded the first Jewish colonies in the Holy Land, the announcement said.
The Jewish Agency for Palestine has given its consent to the memorial, to ensure the success of which augmented contributions are requested by the Keren Hayesod.
