That Columbia students are unable to generate much heat over the recent dismissal from the faculty of Jerome A. Klein, formerly an instructor in the Fine Arts Department, became apparent when only fifty turned out for a protest rally in the McMillan Theatre.
Oakley Johnson, a former English instructor at City College, was the principal speaker at the meeting, which had been arranged by the university’s Socialist and Social Problem club. He charged that Klein’s “connection with the Ambassador Luther protest had something to do with the retrenchment program in regards to him.”
Fred Hartt, a former student of Klein’s, also spoke. James Mendenhall, of the faculty of the Lincoln School, was chairman. A campus rally for tomorrow noon was announced.
