The Palestine Government has announced appointment of a British officer, F.R. Mason, as commander of the newly-recruited Palestine volunteer force. The volunteer force, according to a Government ordinance, will be used “to assist the regular forces in all measures required for prosecution of the war or ensuring internal security.”
At the same time, the official Palestine Gazette announced that Nazareth, Safed and Tiberias had been included in the areas requiring protection against air raids.
The Palestine Review editorially proposed that American Zionist leaders visit Palestine in the present emergency period to gain first-hand information and impressions and establish closer contact between the Palestine and American Jewish communities. The weekly recalled the demonstration of solidarity in the sending of a Hadassah medical unit to Palestine during the last war.
It was announced that 24 new types of industrial enterprise were established in Palestine during the last five years, including factories for machine parts, medical appliances, chemical, pharmaceutical and diamond-cutting factories.
A joint body for the furtherance of Palestine-Egypt industrial interests will be formed shortly under the terms of an agreement signed by officials of the Egyptian Industrial Federation and the Palestine Manufacturers’ Association, which provides for establishment of joint organizations for the purchase of raw materials and the creation of permanent trade exhibitions.
