Commenting on Premier Taschereau’s announcement that the government of Quebec will itself introduce a bill for solving the Montreal Jewish school question, the “Jewish Eagle” in an editorial points out that the Premier’s bill, like the one of Mr. Bercovitch, still leaves a way open for negotiations between Jews and Protestants, which would preclude the organization of separate Jewish schools. The editorial is of the opinion that the Jews of Montreal can obtain nothing of permanent value through such negotiations. “The main question,” it says, “is who will be the Jewish committee which will be appointed by the government after the bill will have been adopted, and what path this committee will choose.”
