Commenting on the despatches that Norway is planning to prohibit kosher meat, Dr. Israel Levi, Grand Rabbi of France, declared the proposed measure was arousing great indignation among Jews in France, who have sent letters of protest to the Norwegian Government.
“The pretext given is that slaughter by jugulation is cruel,” he said, “but any slaughter is cruel, and it is to be feared that other and less worthy motives are involved. The number of orthodox Jews in Norway is very small, and it would be regrettable if they should be subjected to official persecution,” he stated.
