United States citizens, Jewish and non-Jewish, having claims against Poland for the nationalization or other taking of their property were urged today by the U.S. Foreign Claims Settlement Commission to file claims immediately with the commission.
Mrs. Stanley D. Pace, chairman of the commission, announced that a recently negotiated American-Polish agreement to pay $40,000,000 over a 20-year period required that claimants file claims before September 30. Commission sources pointed out that many American nationals of Jewish faith were among the 19,500 persons notified of the agreement because they lost property in Poland. Eligible claimants must show to the commission that the property upon which the claims are based was owned by United States citizens at the time of the taking. In addition, the loss must have occurred prior to July 16,1960, the date the claims agreement with Poland was signed.
