Unrecognized Bedouin villages in the Negev should be made official, an Israeli commission said.
The homes of more than 40,000 Bedouins in more than 40 unincorporated Bedouin villages in the Negev should be made legal or the residents should receive compensation, said a commission headed by retired Israeli Judge Eliezer Goldberg in a report given Thursday to Infrastructure and Housing Minister Ze’ev Boim.
The report also suggested that village residents could request to have their communities relocated to areas of the Negev set aside for the Bedouin. The committee also recommended giving legal status to all of the villages’ illegal structures.
