The French National Committee for Solidarity with Israel opened a fund-raising campaign for Israel last night with a reception by Baron Guy de Rothschild. The goal of the committee is 500, 000, 000 francs (approx. $1, 428, 000); it has already raised 212, 000, 000 francs.
Vincent Auriol, former President of France and head of the committee, declared that “this young, noble nation, Israel, has the right to the support of all men, all free people, especially of her friend France. The people of Israel are fighting for freedom, liberty and justice. They are defending liberty against the assault of a coalition of dictators and fanatics.”
