Governor Sir Mark Young announced today that a select committee will be appointed to inquire into the whole question of Jewish refugee settlement in Tanganyika. He disclosed that a preliminary survey was already under way. In a financial report to the Chamber, Sir Mark attributed this year’s budgetary deficit of $890,000 and next year’s scheduled deficit of $56,500 to paralysis of business resulting from general uncertainty over the future status of Tanganyika, British mandated territory, formerly a German colony.
