A committee of nine has been appointed to prepare the final draft of the contract which the Hebrew Butchers Workers Union will submit to the Jewish butcher owners, it was learned yesterday from Louis Waldman, attorney for the union.
The executive board of the union has been authorized to appoint a committee of fifty to act as a general strike committee, Waldman said, in the event that the employers refuse to sign.
The union’s threat to strike if its demands are not met by the employers was held in abeyance yesterday because of the Jewish holiday.
The union demands complete unionization of the kosher meat industry, a maximum work week of forty-eight hours, a minimum wage of $80 a day, no discharge without due cause, and an equal division of work among unemployed Jewish butchers, to be controlled entirely by the union.
