A 40 percent reduction in the tariff on Israeli citrus fruits exported to the six member nations of the European Common Market was approved by the agricultural ministers of the Euromart nations here. It puts Israel on a par with Spain and Turkey but not with Morocco and Tunisia which were granted an 80 percent tariff reduction. The concession nevertheless represented a gain for Israel in its efforts to achieve associate status with the European Economic Community. The decision confirmed an agreement reached by the ECC Council of Ministers in October, 1967 that tariff concessions should become effective for all of the Mediterranean countries concerned at the same time.
