The question of forming a Jewish military unit in Palestine, following the demobilization of the British gendarmerie in the country reechoed yesterday in the House of Commons when Col. Josiah Wedgwood asked the Colonial Secretary “whether it was true that Jews are excluded from the re-formed Palestine gendarmerie and if so why.”

Replying to this question, Secreary Amery declared that he was “still in correspondence with the High Commissioner and that he is not yet in a position to make a statement in the matter. The frontier force will be of a military character and will be separate from the ordinary police forces for the maintenance of internal order and security in the country,” the Colonial Secretary stated.

Col. Wedgwood further asked whether “the natives will be excluded from the military force.” Amery answered this question in the negative.

“The matter, however, is still under consideration. The new force will largely serve Transjordania,” he stated.
