The charge of land speculation made by a section of the Communist press against some of the Jewish settlers in the Odessa district led to an incident which is much discussed here.
Mr. Vatman, a Communist and the manager of the Jewish colony, Kotovsky, entered the editorial rooms of the “Odeskeya Isvestiya” and slapped the face of the feature writer, Svietlov, who had criticized the management of the colony, accusing it of land speculation. Vatman was arrested and will be arraigned on the charge of hooliganism and insulting a representative of the Soviet press.
