The Daily Worker, Communist organ, claimed in a frontpage editorial today that Soviet Russia’s invasion of Poland had saved more than a million Jews from Nazi anti-Semitism.
“More than a million Jews living in western Ukraine and western Byelo-Russia are now beyond the pale of Fascist anti-Semitism,” the editorial said. It asserted that the Red Army had made its entrance “after the semi-Fascist Polish Government had ceased to exist and had left them (the Ukrainian and White Russian minorities) to the ravages of war and Fascist enslavement.” The Freiheit, Yiddish Communist daily, commented similarly.
