Police reinforcements were moved today into Nazareth, stronghold of the Communist Party of Israel, in anticipation of Communist organized street demonstrations.
Twenty Israeli Communist leaders are now under administrative arrest as a result of disturbances in Nazareth during the May Day parades. The arrests are to be reviewed tomorrow by a special committee headed by Supreme Court Justice Vitkin. Aiming to influence the decision of this body, the Communist announced today that they would organize mass demonstrations of women and children in Nazareth if the committee confirms the arrests of the 20 leaders.
While the Communists in all-Arab Nazareth threatened riots to secure the release of their leaders, meetings were held today in numerous Arab towns and villages at which the speakers disassociated themselves from Communist-organized demonstrations.
