A decision of the central executive committee of the Communist Youth Organization, (Comsomol) adopted today will do much to solve the problem of the unemployed semi-proletarian and poor Jewish youth by directing them into productive work over a period ending with the completion of the Five Year Plan. The Comsomol’s decision points out that it is important that the attention of the Soviet government be called to this urgent problem. The Comsomol, has accordingly proposed to the land commissariat that it transfer Jewish youth from the former Pale to the industrial centers of the Soviet Union.
Accordingly the Comsomol has instructed its various branches in the provinces and the Soviet republics to recruit the poor Jewish youth in factories, mills, building work, Soviet collectives and transport and mining trade courses. The instructions call for the admission of not less than 5,000 Jewish youth into factories and trade schools, 1,000 each in transport and building schools and the placing of 5,000 in the newly organized industries and 5,000 in the artisans cooperatives organized by the state labor bureaus. All of this is to be done this Fall.
The Communist Youth Organization, which has a membership of 2,500,000, is the strongest and most active and influential youth organization in Russia. It plays an important role in the political and economic life of the Soviet Union.
