Mendel Potascher, president of the Kehillah in the town, Ustryzki-Dolne, Eastern Galicia, received a threatening letter signed “Youth Organization, U.S.S.R.,” because he participated in a protest meeting against the synagogue desecration in the town.
A “Cherim” (excommunication) was pronounced by the rabbi against anyone knowing the culprits and not disclosing their identity. The vandals who attacked the synagogue, beating the students in the Beth Ha’midrash, demolishing the Ark and burning the Scrolls of the Law, singing the Communistic international hymn as they went about their act, have not yet been found.
