PROCLAIMING THAT “ATHEISM CAN BE PLANTED IN THE SOULS OF CHILDREN FROM THE YOUNGEST AGE,” THE YIDDISH COMMUNIST PAPER, EMES, YESTERDAY CALLED FOR A SCHOOLROOM DRIVE TO COUNTERACT A RELIGIOUS REVIVAL AMONG JEWS IN RUSSIA.

THE RELIGIOUS MOVEMENT, WHICH IS CAUSING ANXIETY IN JEWISH COMMUNIST CIRCLES, SHOULD BE MET, EMES DECLARED, BY INCREASED PROPAGANDA AGAINST RELIGION AMONG JEWISH WORKERS AND PARTICULARLY IN JEWISH SCHOOLS.

AN ENERGETIC RELIGIOUS CAMPAIGN IS BEING CONDUCTED BY RABBIS, “NOT WITHOUT SUCCESS,” THE PAPER SAID. SCORES OF CHILDREN IN THE PROVINCE OF MOHILEV-PODOLSK, IT REPORTED, STAYED AWAY FROM SCHOOL DURING THE PASSOVER HOLIDAYS LAST SPRING AND PARTICIPATED IN THE SEDER CEREMONY, ASKING THE TRADITIONAL “FOUR QUESTIONS.”

MANY CHILDREN, EMES ADDED, RECEIVE INSTRUCTION FROM JEWISH RELIGIOUS TEACHERS IN ADDITION TO THEIR REGULAR SCHOOLING. IT CALLED UPON REGULAR SCHOOL TEACHERS TO GIVE ANTI-RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION TO JEWISH YOUNGSTERS.
