The Interposal Association of Jewish Communities–representing the communities in Western Germany–meeting here, has rejected a proposal by West German President Theodor Heuss and Chancellor Konrad Adenauer that an office on Jewish affairs be set up to advise the Bonn Government. Instead, the Association formally suggested to the government that all problems concerning Jews be discussed with the democratically elected representatives of the Jewish community.
Meanwhile, it was reported today that the head of the Bonn Government’s advisory Jewish affairs office will be nominated soon. Although the nominations have not yet been presented, it is understood that the most likely candidate is Bavarian Chief Rabbi Aaron Ohrenstein. Jews in the British zone have submitted the name of Dr. E.G. Lowenthal, a former Berlin lawyer who returned to Germany from London at the end of the war.
