Conditions at the Fort Ontario refugee shelter in Oswego, New York, are constantly improving and the refugees are pleased with the available facilities and the attitude of the camp administration. Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, president of the American Jewish Congress, reported today to a meeting of the executive committee of the Congress, following his return from the camp.
Dr. Wise’s visit to Fort Ontario coincided with the first meeting of the democratically elected Council of the Camp. The Refugee Council is made up of a number of men eminent in their various callings — law, medicine, literature, the theatre — representing Yugoslavia, Poland, the German-speaking countries, Hungary, Italy, France and Belgium.
