Condoleezza Rice postponed her visit to Israel and the Palestinian areas. The U.S. secretary of state was due to visit the region early next week to advance negotiations between Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Instead, the State Department announced Thursday that she will travel to the region at the end of July to coordinate her visit with one about the same time planned by Robert Gates, the defense secretary.
