The presidium of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany announced today that it has instructed its delegation to proceed to The Hague to resume negotiations early next week with the German Federal Republic.
The presidium of the Conference will assemble in Europe to keep in close touch with its delegation at this crucial stage. The policy committee of the Conference, representing all its member organizations, will meet in Europe at the beginning of July to review developments.
The decision to re-enter negotiations was taken by the Conference in consultation with the Israel Government, which regards the offer that the German Cabinet made to Israel this week as a basis for resuming talks.
The Conference delegation will press for a settlement of its claim to heirless Jewish assets, and will also continue its negotiations for German legislative measures which would enable individual claimants to obtain restitution and indemnification for damages sustained under the Nazi regime.
