Plans for convocation of a British Commonwealth conference of representative Jewish bodies to be held in London this year were revealed today with the announcement by the South African Board of Jewish Deputies that it had agreed, in principle, to participate.
Invitations to this conference have been issued by the Board of Deputies of British Jews. The South African group accepted with the proviso that there be sufficient representative delegates from other areas present and that an adequate agenda be drawn up. A Commonwealth conference of Jewish organizations was held in London three years ago.
The South African Board also announced today it had renewed for a further year its membership in the Coordinating Board of Jewish Organizations which has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The future of the Coordinating Board will be reviewed this year at a meeting of the representatives of the three participating bodies – the South African Deputies, the British Deputies and the B’nai B’rith.
