A symposium on Israeli and Argentine medicine opened here under the chairmanship of Prof. Florencio Escardo, dean of the Buenos Aires Medical School.
Among the first day’s speakers at the symposium honoring Israel’s tenth anniversary, were: Dr. Hector Noblia, Argentine Minister of Health; Dr. Arieh Kubovi, Israel’s Ambassador to Argentina; Dr. Moses Rachmilewitz, dean of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical College, and Prof. Escardo, who heads the Council for Argentine-Israeli Culture Exchange’s medical committee.
Dr. Rachmilevitz reported that despite political alarums and other obstacles, the medical and social rehabilitation of new immigrants was proceeding apace. He revealed the Oriental diseases which were not previously known in Israel, like bilharzia, the parasitic water-borne disease, have been introduced into the country by immigrants.
