A conference on economic problems of the Near East will be hold here on Saturday at the Hotel Roosevelt arranged by the Institute of World Economies of which Dr. Lewis Lorwin of Washington is chairman. The conference will review the economic, social and political development of Turkey, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia in the period between World War I and World War II, and will consider the post-war outlook for that area.
Among the speakers will be Professor Philip K. Hitti, distinguished orientalist of the History Department, Princeton University; Professor W. F. Albright of John Hopkins University; Professor S. Ralph Harlow of Smith College; Laird Archor, Foreign Director of the Near East Foundation; Lt. Edward A. Norman, U.S.N.R., and former president of the American Economic Committee for Palestine; Dr. H. William Hazen of the Board of Economic Warfare; and Emanuel Neumann, former member of the executive of the Jewish Agency for Palestine.
