A Foreign Ministry spokesman has confirmed a statement by the Israel Embassy in Washington. reported by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency yesterday, that no discussion of American guarantees has come up in talks with the US about an interim agreement to reopen the Suez Canal. Speaking for the Ministry this evening, David Turgeman said that the issue of guarantees cannot rise at all while Egypt insists that Israel commit itself to total withdrawal within the framework of a partial agreement. He said Eban will meet again with Rogers to continue talks.
