Pope Pius XII has interceded with the Regent of Hungary in behalf of the Hungarian Jews, it was confirmed today in a cable received at the headquarters of the World Jewish Congress here from its London office.
The Apostolic Delegate in London has written the British Section of the World Jewish Congress stating: “I have telegram from Holy See to say Holy Father has appealed personally to Regent of Hungary on behalf your people and has been assured Regent will do all possible to help.”
The Pope’s intervention, the Congress said, had also been sought by Myron Paylor who conveyed to him the deep concern of the Jewish community of American regarding the fate of the remaining Jews in Hungary. Mr. Taylor conferred with Dr. Stephen S. Wise and Dr. Nahum Goldmann representing the World Jewish Congress, prior to his departure for Rome.
