Confusion over the state of Anglo-American negotiations on the implementation of the report of the Palestine committee of inquiry was deepened today when the Foreign Office reiterated its announcement that a joint expert committee to study technical questions connected with the report will start work in the near future.
Yesterday evening, a State Department spokesman in Washington denied that any such committee had been established. Today, United States Official quarters in London said the advance party of the United States element of the committee which had been expected to arrive in Britain by air today, would be delayed.
British official quarters in London say that the function of the joint committee is to work on the practical problems of transport and settlement of Jewish immigrants should Britain agree to admit 100,000 Jews to Palestine. But it is emphasized that no decision on policy has yet been taken by Britain. Informed quarters here do not expect that one will be taken before July.
