Following the protests made early this month by the Jewish Sabbath Alliance of America against the scheduled opening of schools on the Jewish New Year, September 10, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America on Friday announced that it has also filed protests with the Board of Education. The congregations body received the same reply given the Alliance, that the date of opening would not be deferred.
Last Monday Assemblyman Albert D. Schanzer, on the suggestion of the Jewish Sabbath Alliance, offered for introduction to the Assembly a resolution memorializing the board and the city of New York to amend the by-laws of the Board of Education so as to permit a postponement.
