The Department of Defense has asked Congress to approve a $416 million sale of weapons to Israel.
Israel is seeking to buy 42 multiple-launch rocket systems and about 2,640 Tow II anti-tank missiles.
Although Congress has 20 days to pass legislation to block the sale, no opposition is expected.
The missile launchers are designed to rapidly fire warheads into a concentrated area, according to the Defense Department. The Tow II anti-tank missiles are designed to pierce armored vehicles, including tanks, and are usually fired from helicopters, defense officials also said.
The funds for the sale will come from the United States’ annual $1.8 billion in military aid to Israel, according to officials.
