The Immigration and Naturalization Committee of the House of Representatives today reported favorably two bills designed to ease citizenship requirements for refugees.
One, introduced by Rep. Samuel Dickstein, New York Democrat, would allow members of the armed forces to become citizens, even if they cannot prove they entered the country legally. The other, sponsored by Rep. Thomas H. Eliot, Democrat of Massachusetts, permits enemy aliens to be naturalized if they have close relatives in the armed forces. Ordinarily, aliens of enemy nationality cannot become citizens in war-time.
Both bills will come up on the floor of the house after technical changes suggested by the Justice Department have been included.
