Rep. Thomas J. Lane (Mass. Dem.) today introduced a resolution urging the establishment of “free ports” for refugees. It is similar to the measure introduced last Friday by Rep. Samuel Dickstein (N. Y. Dem.).
Lane told the JTA it was essential that “the plight of those under Nazi oppression, which becomes more and more serious daily, be kept before the American public.” He said he hoped the Immigration Committee would hold hearings on the idea of establishing temporary havens within the next week or two.
