Rep. Emanuel Celler introduced a bill today to erect a memorial in Washington to the “humanity and majestic scientific achievements” of the late Dr. Albert Einstein.
The bill stipulates that authority be granted to any private organization which accepts the cost of the memorial and the responsibility of its maintenance. The erection would take place within five years from the date of approval of the resolution and the model must be approved by the Fine Arts Commission and the Joint Committee of the Library of Congress.
A memorial meeting for Albert Einstein under the sponsorship of the South African Board of Jewish Deputies and the South African Zionist Federation, was held in Johannesburg in the Great Hall of the University of Witwatersrand. Professor F. Nabarro, professor of physics, delivered an assessment of Dr. Einstein’s scientific achievements, S M. Kuper chairman of the Zionist Federation, spoke on “Einstein, the Jew.” Justice L Greenberg presided.)
