Congress has been notified by the Pentagon of new military sales to Saudi Arabia totalling $1.2 billion. The sales include $700 billion for the construction and design of a new airfield for the Saudi air force, a $408 million addition to communications facilities for its navy, $113 million for the purchase of spares and supplies to support previous aircraft and arms purchases from the U.S. According to the Pentagon, the prime contractor for the command and communications facilities would be Science Applications of MacLean, Va. There were no prime contractors for the other proposed sales. Congress has 30 days to veto the $1.2 billion sales package.
