One thousand delegates and guests from all sections of France are attending the three day congress of Jewish Societies, the purpose of which is to establish a Federation representing the entire Jewish Community of France.

Delegates include representatives from Metz, Nancy, Strasbourg, Lens, Bordeaux, Valenciennes and minor centers. The Federation of Algerian Societies, with a membership of 30,000, is also represented.

The opening session on Saturday evening was addressed by Baron Alfred Guinzbourg, Israel Yefroykin, Rabbi Eisenstadt, Professor William Qualid and Henri Sliosberg, who presided.

Dr. Yefroykin declared that the congress is not seeking to bring about a separation of French Jewry but rather to bring about a gradual unity of all sections of Jews resident in France. While assimilating the best of French culture we desire to conserve our heritage of two thousand years, he said.
