A permanent world organization to promote research in Jewish studies was approved last night at the Second Congress of Jewish Studies at the close of an eight-day conclave.
Delegates also elected a 35-man council to serve until the meeting of the next Congress in 1961. The new world organization will maintain a department on demography and statistics on Jews in several countries and will convene Congresses every four years.
The newly-elected council presidium includes Prof. Ben Zion Dinur, chairman, and professors Salo Baron of New York, Nelson Glueck, president of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Cecil Roth of England and F. B. Mazar, president of the Hebrew University.
