A special seven-member House committee to investigate whether non-profit foundations are using tax-exempt status for “un-American” activities was named today by Rep. Sam Rayburn, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Members of Congress have warned that Jewish organizations might be included in probes to be conducted by the committee. Critics of the committee have charged that it will have an unlimited field of inquiry, including the power to probe organizations concerned with minority problems.
The new committee was urged by Rep. E.E. Cox of Georgia, who was named its chairman.
