Representative Emanuel Cellar the Tenth Congressional District, Brooklyn, announced yesterday that owing to reports from Germany that some of its people were guilty of “shocking crimes against innocent Jews” -all in the name of anti-Semitism, he was staying his hand in introducing into the House of Representatives a joint resolution for the appropriation of $25,000,000 for the relief of the suffering population of Germany.
Mr. Cellar asks for advice and counsel on this point. He says frankly, that he does not know what to do and requests the German-Americans in New York and others who are interested to write to him.
“As a Jew I must inveigh against those irresponsible and wretched Germans whose intolerance takes this form of violence and blood lust,” Congressman Cellar states. “Shall I nevertheless continue my efforts to have our Government contribute $25,000,000 for bread and milk for other 2,000,000 children ? I ask for enlightenment. I ask the good German people of New York and of my district for advice and counsel. I ask them also to write back home to assuage this irreligious feeling and hatred against the people that gave to the world its religion of oneness of God”.
