A group of Congressmen joined today in the preparation of a bill to broaden the application of the principle established in the ruling issued by the U.S. Supreme Court this week upholding the right of Illinois to pass a “group libel” law prohibiting the distribution of lithographs, movies, sketches, or other material deriding citizens of any race, creed, or color.

Representatives Jacob K. Javits, Arthur G. Klein, Adam C. Powell, and Eugene J. Keogh are drafting a bill to safeguard against group libel by banning the inter-state shipment, importation into the United States, or the mailing of printed material containing false statements against any racial or religious group. The bill will be submitted in the near future.
