Governor John H. Trumbull. E. McLean Buckingham, Commissioner of Agriculture for Connectiont and Sidney A. Edwards, director of the Bureau of Markets in Connecticut addessed the third annual Field Day of the Jewish Farmers of Connecticut which was held at the Rockville Fair Grounds with over 500 men, women and children in attendance. Prizes were awarded in the contest conducted by the Society with 12 of the 54 National prizes being awarded Connecticut residents.
The program opened in Ellington where the tobacco plantations of Max Lavitt, Harry and Paul Leibman and Joseph Bermant were inspected.
Gabriel Davidson, general manager of the Jewish Agricultural Society, who acted as chairman said that the Jewish farm population of Connecticut at present is between 4,000 and 5,000.
The group drove to Bloomfield where they inspected a new colony of Jewish farmers. The automobiles were escorted by State policemen from the Stafford Spring Barracks.
The committees in charged included Samuel Kostolefsky. Connecticut representative of the Jewish Agricultural Society; Joseph Lavitt, Abe Rosenberg, Leon Dobkin, Nathan Bermant, Paul Liebman, Barney Rosenberg, Julius Wetstone, Samuel Silverherz and Harry Liebman.
