Resolution supporting birth control, collective bargaining, peace movements and the campaign to plant 100,000 trees in Palestine were adopted last night at the closing session of the thirty-sixth annual convention of the Rabbinical Assembly.
Officers elected are: Rabbi Eugene Cohn, president; Simon Greenberg, vice-president; Alexander Basel, treasurer; Henry Fisher, recording secretary; Arthur Neulander, corresponding secretary, and Louis Finklestein, Rabbi M. Kaplan, Rabbi Robert Gordis, Rabbi Joel Geffen and Rabbi Isadore Singer, executive council members.
The convention closed with a banquet in honor of the twenty-fifth anniversary as rabbi of Max Drob of the Bronx and Dr. Israel Levinthal of Brooklyn. Dr. Elias Margolis presided.
Other resolution were adopted as follows:
To formulate the official attitude of the Rabbinical Assembly toward Zionism and to implement this attitude within the framework of the World Zionist Organization.
To hold the next convention in connection with the fiftieth anniversary of the Jewish Theological Seminary and to exhibit literary, religious and civic achievements of the assembly.
Announcing determination to solve the problem of the agunah (deserted wife) within the framework of Jewish law.
On recommendation of Rabbi Kahn, to instruct the social justice and education committees to prepare a syllabus for adult study groups and an anthology of Jewish social teaching Juveniles.
To appoint a special committee to formulate an ideal Jewish community plan of organization.
