The United Synagogue of America, national organization of the Conservative congregations, is launching a “crash” program of youth activities in an effort to bring American Jewish youth closer to Judaism, it was announced here last night by Henry N. Rapaport, newly-elected president of the United Synagogue, He outlined the plan at a dinner here where he was installed as head of the organization. More than 300 leaders of the United Synagogue attended the event.
He said the plan is to double the 24 day schools and seven summer camps already in operation with a total enrollment of 8, 500 Jewish youngsters. A similar expansion program will be launched in the congregational afternoon schools, now numbering 750 in the United States and Canada, with a total enrollment of 150, 000 students.
