Construction on Germany’s national Holocaust memorial will begin this spring. American architect Peter Eisenman designed the memorial, which was approved in 1999 by Parliament after more than 10 years of debate. The memorial will feature some 2,700 cement slabs, some standing up to 15 feet high. It is expected to cost some $22 million in both public and private funds.
