The consumer price index soared by almost 4 percent during April according to official figures released here today. The overall price rise since the beginning of the year is 9.5 percent. The spiraling prices in April were led by frozen meat and other foodstuffs from which the government removed price ceilings to avoid paying increased subsidies. The prices of apartments and clothing also increased during April according to the Central Bureau of Statistics.
