A group of 20 children to be admitted to Canada ## a recent order-in-council permitting the entry of 1,000 Jewish orphans from ## is expected to arrive here from France within the next fortnight, Saul Hayes, executive director of the Canadian Jewish Congress, which is sponsoring their immigration, announced today.
Mr. Hayes said that other groups are expected soon from Poland, Rumania, ## Italy, Germany, Austria, Greece, England and Belgium. Arrangements for their ##ption and placement are being made by a Congress-sponsored committee consisting of representatives of the HIAS, YMHA’s, child welfare agencies, synagogues and employment agencies.
The project is the culmination of five years’ work by the Congress, which, in 1942, secured permission from the Canadian Government to bring in 1,000 children from then Vichy France. The plan fell through when the Germans overran all of France following the Allied invasion of North Africa in 1942. In June, 1947, the government ## the offer, extending it to take in children from any country in Europe.
